Course Overview

The department of physiotherapy was established in 2003 at RajaRajeswari Medical College and Hospital to cater to the preventive, creative, therapeutic and rehabilitation needs of the rural people need was felt to impart the much needed physiotherapy vocational and rehabilitation training programme. Practical training to students is imparted at state of the art physiotherapy and rehabilitation center where a student gets hands on training under the expert faculty of multidisciplinary tertiary care Hospital. Students expand their horizons of therapeutic and rehabilitative concepts through involvement in community based rehabilitation programs and their “outreach” activities.

The Institution plans and organizes the teaching /learning process by framing academic calendar at the beginning of the Academic year. All staffs submit their lesson plans. We also have out-patient and in-patient teaching, which includes community teaching.

ELIGIBILITY: 10+2, A Level, IB, American 12th Grade or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, English & Biology with a minimum of 45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

Objectives

The course will train the students:
  1. To attain knowledge on preclinical and clinical subjects.
  2. To acquire knowledge on the therapeutic exercises and modalities.
  3. To acquire the therapeutic skills in treating the patients with any medical or surgical conditions.
  4. To acquire the knowledge of professional ethics in treating the patients.
  5. To acquire the practice of multidisciplinary professional team coordination in treating the patients in the health care setup.

  6. Course Outcome

    At the completion of the Bachelor's Degree course in Physiotherapy the student will be able to:
    1. Acquire adequate knowledge of the basic medical subjects in the practice of physiotherapy.
    2. Develop skills and techniques of therapeutic massage and exercise for the management of various medical and surgical conditions.
    3. Development of proper attitude of compassion and concern for the individuals and welfare of the physically-challenged in the community.
    4. Demonstrate skill in teaching, management, research, guidance and counseling.
    5. Practice moral and ethical values.

    Eligibility

    Qualifying Examination

    A Candidate seeking admission to first year Bachelor in Physiotherapy (BPT):

    1. Should have passed two year Pre University examination conducted by Department of Pre- University Education, Karnataka State, with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.
    2. Shall have passed any other examination conducted by Boards/Councils/Intermediate examination established by State Government/Central Government and recognized as equivalent to a two year Pre University Examination by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences/ Association of Indian Universities (AIU), with English as one of the subjects and Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects. The candidate shall have passed subjects of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology individually also.
    3. Candidates who have completed Pre-university course with Vocational Physiotherapy as their optional subject are eligible for admission to BPT course.
    Marks

    The selection of students to a course of Physiotherapy shall be based on merit provided that:

    In case of admission on the basis of qualifying examination, a candidate for admission to BPT course must have passed individually in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and must have obtained not less than 45% marks taken together in Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the qualifying examination. In respect of candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes or Category I, the marks obtained in Physics, Chemistry and Biology together in qualifying examination is not less than 40% instead of 45% as above.

    Age:

    A candidate seeking admission to Bachelor of Physiotherapy course should have completed 17 years of age, as on 31st December of the year of admission.
    Every candidate before admission to the course shall furnish to Principal of the Institution a certificate of Medical Fitness from an authorized Government Medical Officer to the effect, that the candidate is physically fit to undergo Physiotherapy course.

    Duration of the Study:

    The duration of the BPT Course shall be four and half years including internship of six months.

    Medium of Instruction:

    English shall be the medium of instruction for all the subjects of study and for the examinations of the BPT Course.
