The Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Department specializes in the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of cardiopulmonary disorders across acute, subacute, and chronic stages of care. The department is committed to providing evidence-based physiotherapy interventions focused on improving functional capacity, respiratory efficiency, exercise tolerance, physical endurance, and overall quality of life in individuals with cardiac and pulmonary conditions. Through individualized rehabilitation programs, therapeutic exercise prescription, breathing retraining, airway clearance techniques, and patient education, the department plays a vital role in promoting recovery, functional independence, and long-term cardiopulmonary health management. The department offers comprehensive academic and clinical training for undergraduate students, interns, and postgraduate students, helping them develop strong clinical reasoning, practical competency, communication skills, and confidence in cardiopulmonary physiotherapy practice. Students and interns gain clinical exposure in conditions such as coronary artery disease, post-cardiac surgery rehabilitation, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma, interstitial lung diseases, post-COVID rehabilitation, intensive care rehabilitation, and other acute and chronic cardiopulmonary conditions. Training includes cardiopulmonary assessment, vital parameter monitoring, exercise tolerance evaluation, breathing pattern assessment, airway clearance assessment, chest expansion measurement, posture analysis, functional capacity testing, and evidence-based rehabilitation planning. The department is equipped with advanced rehabilitation facilities including monitored exercise therapy units, aerobic and endurance training equipment, breathing retraining devices, incentive spirometry, airway clearance tools, pulmonary function assessment equipment, and patient education resources. Students and interns are trained in aerobic conditioning, endurance training, breathing exercises, inspiratory muscle training, airway clearance techniques, chest physiotherapy, early mobilization, ICU rehabilitation, relaxation techniques, and patient counselling to support safe and effective cardiopulmonary rehabilitation. The department maintains multidisciplinary collaboration with the departments of Cardiology, Cardiothoracic Surgery, Pulmonology, Intensive Care Unit, General Medicine, and Nutrition & Dietetics to ensure integrated and patient-centered healthcare management. Regular interdisciplinary discussions, coordinated rehabilitation planning, and collaborative clinical care enhance patient recovery, improve exercise tolerance, reduce complications, and facilitate early return to functional independence. This interdisciplinary exposure also helps students and interns understand the importance of comprehensive and coordinated rehabilitation practices. A key strength of the department is its emphasis on hands-on clinical learning, evidence-based rehabilitation, and patient-centered care. Undergraduate students and interns actively participate in patient assessment, exercise supervision, treatment procedures, monitoring of cardiopulmonary parameters, and rehabilitation planning under faculty guidance, while postgraduate students are involved in advanced rehabilitation planning, research activities, case discussions, and evidence-based clinical practice. Academic learning is further enriched through seminars, workshops, clinical demonstrations, CME programs, webinars, guest lectures, and scientific discussions focusing on recent advances in cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation.
