The Obstetrics and Gynaecology Physiotherapy Department is dedicated to the assessment, rehabilitation, prevention, and management of women’s health conditions across different stages of life, including antenatal, postnatal, and gynaecological care. The department provides evidence-based physiotherapy services focused on maternal health, pelvic floor rehabilitation, pain management, physical fitness, functional recovery, and overall well-being of women. Through individualized rehabilitation programs, therapeutic exercise, patient education, and preventive healthcare approaches, the department contributes significantly to safe pregnancy, postnatal recovery, and long-term women’s health promotion. The department offers comprehensive academic and clinical training for undergraduate students, interns, and postgraduate students, helping them develop clinical reasoning, communication skills, professional competency, and confidence in women’s health physiotherapy practice. Students and interns gain hands-on clinical exposure in antenatal and postnatal physiotherapy, pelvic floor dysfunction, urinary incontinence, pregnancy-related musculoskeletal pain, diastasis recti, post-caesarean and post-hysterectomy rehabilitation, menopausal health concerns, and various gynaecological and musculoskeletal disorders affecting women. Training includes posture assessment, breathing pattern evaluation, pelvic floor muscle assessment, abdominal muscle integrity testing, pain evaluation, ergonomic advice, and functional assessment related to pregnancy and women’s health conditions. The department emphasizes patient-centered and evidence-based rehabilitation through individualized treatment planning according to the patient’s condition and functional needs. Clinical facilities support antenatal and postnatal exercise programs, labour preparation exercises, pelvic floor rehabilitation, relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, posture correction, ergonomic training, pain management, and post-surgical rehabilitation. Students and interns are trained in therapeutic exercise prescription, core strengthening, pelvic floor muscle training, manual therapy techniques, electrotherapy applications, relaxation therapy, lifestyle modification, and patient counselling to promote safe physical activity and functional independence during and after pregnancy. The department also encourages multidisciplinary collaboration with obstetricians, gynaecologists, nurses, psychologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic and integrated women’s healthcare management. This interdisciplinary exposure helps students and interns understand coordinated rehabilitation, maternal care, and comprehensive women’s health management within clinical and community settings. A key strength of the department is its strong focus on hands-on clinical learning, evidence-based practice, and patient-centered care. Undergraduate students and interns actively participate in patient assessment, treatment planning, exercise supervision, patient education, and rehabilitation procedures under faculty guidance, while postgraduate students are involved in advanced rehabilitation planning, case discussions, research activities, and evidence-based clinical decision-making. Academic activities are further enriched through seminars, workshops, clinical demonstrations, CME programs, webinars, guest lectures, and scientific discussions focusing on recent advances in women’s health physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
